LILA DOWNS
Lila Downs is one of the most influential and representative artists of Mexican music in Latin America. Known for the importance she gives to issues such as social justice within her music, Downs has lent her voice to various activism issues, mainly regarding issues related to the indigenous population in Latin America; giving a voice to migrants and indigenous people. In 2022, Lila Downs celebrated 25 years of her career as an artist by performing at Palacio de Bellas Artes, where she recorded her most recent album "Desde Bellas Artes México", which has 21 songs, including three unpublished songs: All Night, Mandimbo and Thorn. In this concert, Lila performed with Natalia Lafourcade, Javier Camarena, and Mardonio Carballo. Lanproduccion oversaw the award-winning engineer Aneiro Taño and Paul R. Cohen (+). This year, Lila Downs will carry out her world tour "Dos Corazones" which began in February in Argentina and shall continue in Colombia, Spain, Portugal, France, England, the United States, and Finland, and will end in Mexico. One of the highlights is that after her participation in Cosquin Rock (Córdoba, Argentina), she will perform for the first time in Mexico City at the Vive Latino international festival next Saturday, March 18, with a setlist that showcases her ability to move between different genres; such as cumbia, ranchera, folklore and more. In addition to this, in 2023, Lila Downs will release her fourteenth album called “La Sánchez”, produced by Orlando Aispuro; guitarist and producer from Hermosillo, Sonora, who has collaborated with artists such as Carín León, C.Tangana, Matisse. This album is heavily influenced by the music from the north of Mexico and seeks to raise awareness about important matters, such as maternal recognition, compositions in times of pandemic, a journey through mourning, and the vicissitudes of sentimental and social relationships.
ANGÉLIQUE KIDJO
Over the last three decades, Angélique Kidjo has cemented her status as one of the most singular and extraordinary voices in international music, inspiring countless artists with her ingenuity, eclecticism, and seemingly boundless creative spirit. On her new album Mother Nature, the four-time Grammy Award-winning luminary joins forces with many of her musical progeny, including some of the most captivating young creators of West African music, Afrobeat, Afro-pop, dancehall, hip-hop, and alt-R&B. The result is a truly visionary body of work, rooted in a deep understanding of musical tradition yet endlessly forward-thinking and inventive.
