LEO KOTTKE

Leo Kottke is a celebrated acoustic guitarist known for his distinct fingerpicking style, which he utilizes to create rich melodies, intricate chord progressions, and unique compositions. Though born in Athens, Georgia, he grew up in different locations across 12 states, allowing him to absorb a variety of musical influences. Kottke became intrigued by the guitar at age 11, drawn to the country-blues of Mississippi John Hurt along with the music of John Phillip Sousa and Preston Epps. He joined the Navy before finishing high school, serving on the USS Halfbeak in the Atlantic. Once discharged, he settled in Minneapolis, playing at the Scholar Coffeehouse and eventually releasing his first album in 1968. He continued to hone his craft, recording over 20 albums, collaborating with countless musicians, and touring the world. Kottke has been nominated for two Grammy Awards, and his work has influenced generations of guitarists.
