Songs & Stories returns! Ray Wylie Hubbard, Eliza Gilkyson, and Jimmie Dale Gilmore come together on stage for an evening of incredible music and collaboration. They also perform in Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
Ray Wylie Hubbard
A willing conspirator in the late seventies Cosmic Cowboy revolt that ushered in the mythical Outlaw era, Texas singer-songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard was a catalyst in the cultural upheaval that led to the peaceful coexistence of Lone Star music enthusiasts. In the stellar company of iconic colleagues like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Doug Sahm, and Jerry Jeff Walker, Hubbard was an architect of the musical legacy that continues to inspire subsequent generations of up-and-coming Texas talent.
In the years that followed, he evolved into a writer of uncommonly honest portraits of life, alternating between deep personal sagas and poignant character studies of those traveling on the dark side of the road.
Eliza Gilkyson
Eliza Gilkyson is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and activist who is one of the most respected musicians in folk, roots, and Americana circles. Her songs have been covered by Joan Baez, Bob Geldof, Chris Smither, the world-renowned Conspirare Choir, Tom Rush, and Rosanne Cash.
Eliza’s current release, Dark Ages, is a surprisingly upbeat collection of songs, although she pulls no punches in terms of the times in which we find ourselves and her sentiments regarding the current dismantling of the US Constitution by the newly elected president. Working in collaboration with Don Richmond, her producer/accompanist for the last two records, and calling on some of her Austin compadres and fellow New Mexicans to join her, the album showcases Eliza in her strongest and most compelling voice.
Jimmie Dale Gilmore
Jimmie Dale Gilmore has been writing songs and playing music for more than half a century. Born in Amarillo and raised in Lubbock, Gilmore makes music that springs from West Texas dusty high plains, blending elements of folk, rock, country, blues, and bluegrass. His recordings have earned three Grammy nominations in both Contemporary Folk and Traditional Folk, and he was named Country Artist of the Year for three consecutive years by Rolling Stone. Along with longtime compadres Joe Ely and Butch Hancock, Gilmore’s legendary band The Flatlanders has been credited as “Fathers of the Alt-Country” movement.
