ALMA
Alma: A Journey Through Latin America is a musical journey celebrating the traditions, creativity, and shared humanity of Latin America. The concert unfolds in three chapters, beginning with the distinctive sounds of the Andes, moving into Alma’s contemporary original music, and culminating in a joyful celebration of music from across Latin America. Through varied instrumentation, musical textures, storytelling, and contrasts between intimate and full ensemble performances, the program explores themes of love, authenticity, courage, community, nature, and human connection. Brief spoken introductions and English summaries of Spanish-language songs provide cultural context and invite audiences to connect more deeply with the music.
The journey begins with traditional Andean instruments, including tarkas and charango, before opening into Alma’s original compositions and their diverse Latin American influences. The final chapter expands the musical landscape through Paraguayan guitar repertoire, beloved cumbias, and other songs that have become part of Alma’s performing identity. From communal acoustic textures and intimate vocals to fuller ensemble arrangements and electric guitar, the concert builds toward a warm and vibrant celebration. Together, the three chapters create a dynamic and engaging experience that honors cultural roots, embraces contemporary expression, and invites audiences to leave with a deeper appreciation for Latin American music—and a renewed sense of connection to themselves and one another.
