ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Join us for a birthday celebration for Carlos Santana, featuring SMOOTH with Marcos Reyes, WAR percussionist since 1998, who has played with and alongside music's most legendary artists. Also joining SMOOTH is multi-Grammy Award-winning Bay Area trumpet player Bill Ortiz, who has performed with Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter. Ortiz spent 18 years with Carlos Santana, contributing to the writing, recording, and performing on the 1999 Carlos Santana album Supernatural

SMOOTH
SMOOTH is inspired by the Latin rock and Bay Area West Coast sound. This year they take to the Plaza to celebrate the legendary Carlos Santana’s birthday! They have collaborated with Ozomatli, Journey, and more! Formed back in 2015 by Everett Lovato of Santa Fe, the group has been influenced by groups like Malo, Tower of Power, War, El Chicano, Tierra, Santa Fe and the Fat City Horns, and more to play the music they love.  SMOOTH is made out of a group of friends and some of the most talented musicians in and around the Southwest.

MICKY CRUZ
Multi-award winner, singer, songwriter, and artist Micky Cruz is an international star who has performed extensively throughout the US, Mexico, and Latin America. Micky was born in Nicaragua; his ancestry is Filipino and Mayan Indian. He was orphaned at the age of two when his family was killed in the Nicaraguan war in the late 70s. HE then raised himself on the streets of Central American and Mexico, conquering the daily sturggles of homeless life by singing on street corners, buses, and trains. Eventually his musical career developed and he released his first CD at the age of 15. Now he headlines shows throughout the Southwest.
