DAKHABRAKHA
Santa Fe fans, DakhaBRakha performs at the Lensic on December 3 and Albuquerque fans, DakhaBrakha performs at the KiMo Theatre on December 4!
DakhaBrakha is a Kyiv-based music quartet known for their self-described “ethno-chaos” style—a bold fusion of traditional Ukrainian folk and global rhythms from India, Africa, Arabia, and beyond. Formed in 2004 at the DAKH Center for Contemporary Art by avant-garde theater director Vladyslav Troitskyi, their performances blend rich polyphonic vocals, diverse percussion, and theatrical visuals. With roots in Ukraine’s resurging folk traditions—once suppressed under Soviet rule—the band weaves cultural heritage with experimental minimalism and global sounds. Their work, especially in light of Russia’s invasion, serves as both artistic expression and cultural activism. Beyond concerts, they’ve scored classic Ukrainian films like Dovzhenko’s Earth, adding modern resonance to historical narratives. Since gaining international attention in 2011, they’ve played major festivals worldwide and won top honors in Ukraine, the U.S., and France. Each member brings deep folkloric knowledge and creative flair, making DakhaBrakha not only ambassadors of Ukrainian culture, but also innovators reshaping it for a global audience.
