THE CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS

“The California Honeydrops evoke the greasy rumble of Booker T and channel the spiritual ecstasy of Sly and the Family Stone.” — Rolling Stone

Formed in the subway systems of Oakland, retro-soul outfit The California Honeydrops are an electrifying group that defy convention at every turn. They’ve become a mainstay at major festivals including Byron Bay Bluesfest (Australia), Outside Lands, Monterey Jazz Festival, and Lightning in a Bottle, and have toured with legends like B.B. King, Dr. John, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, and Allen Toussaint.

Led by the charismatic frontman Lech Wierzynski and percussionist Benjamin Malament, the band features a lineup of standout musicians: Yanos “Johnny Bones” Lustig (saxophone), Lorenzo Loera (keyboards/guitar), Beaumont Beaullieu (drums), and Miles Blackwell (bass), often joined by Oliver Tuttle (trombone), Leon Cotter (saxophone/clarinet), and Miles Lyons (trombone/sousaphone).

Known for their deep commitment to improvisation, The California Honeydrops have completely abandoned setlists—making every performance unique. Offstage, their music has surpassed 200 million streams and has been featured in TV shows and films like “Dead to Me,” “Alaska Daily,” and “Black-ish.” Their latest album, “Redwood Highway,” was released on August 8, 2025.
